In the cases of 1-800-flowers and other companies that use "bribes" to entice fans, I have to wonder if the fan benefits continue past joining . What keeps fans from leaving the fan page after they receive the initial discount, and does the fan page serve any greater purpose, such as to offer exclusive coupons, provide relevant content, host contests, etc.?
